The Renewable House has been specifically designed to reduce energy consumption, reducing fossil fuel consumption and cutting emissions. Hemcrete® walls inherently provide high levels of insulation and thermal inertia. Their monolithic nature removes the need for cavity walls and conventional insulation. The house is fitted with A-rated appliances and has low energy light bulbs throughout.

Conventional heating has been replaced by an efficient air to water heat pump, which will provide hot water. Downstairs, there is underfloor heating, which maximises the usable space, and upstairs there are single panel radiators supplemented by recycled warm air from a heat recovery unit. The heat recovery ventilation unit will capture the heat energy of extracted air that otherwise could be wasted, providing a warmer, drier, more comfortable home.
