About the Build

The construction industry faces challenging times. New homes must be built but at low cost and low carbon footprint. In 2006, the Code for Sustainable Homes was introduced to reduce the environmental impact of new homes. From 2016, all new homes must reach Level 6, effectively 'zero carbon'. The Renewable House will show how innovative use of renewable materials can meet all these aims cost effectively.

The Renewable House demonstrates the exceptional sustainability credentials of renewable materials, but without compromising on style or affordability. By choosing renewable materials, The Renewable House meets CSH Level 4 with limited additional technologies. The design also enables simple enhancement to Level 5 and, with further modifications, Level 6.

Designed with scale-up in mind, The Renewable House benefits from rapid construction. With only 12 weeks build time, The Renewable House provides a groundbreaking solution to the Government's target of building up to 250,000 sustainable, affordable and desirable homes.

  • Cost. The Renewable House is affordable. £75,000 excluding groundworks and utilities
  • Comfort. A desirable, three bedroom family home
  • Carbon. Low carbon emissions in build and low carbon emissions during use
  • Code Level 4. Reached cost effectively by careful choice of renewable materials
